The Crypto Industry Breathes a Sigh of Relief: Trump’s Decrees Protect Privacy

The crypto community anticipated relief under Trump’s administration, though tensions lingered. That changed with his first decrees. True to his promise, Trump pardoned Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road marketplace, who had been arrested in 2013 and sentenced to an unprecedented two life terms plus 40 years. This disproportionately harsh sentence was criticized a lot. Therefore his release became a turning point in debates on digital privacy and justice.

Also, the court lifted sanctions against Tornado Cash, a mixer service previously targeted for enabling anonymous crypto transactions. However, its developer Alexey Pertsev remains in custody. Following the news, the TORN token surged by 200%.

What truly matters now is the precedent itself. Cryptocurrencies and privacy-focused platforms have been stifled for years. But these decrees return the right to anonymity to users. With this regulators are beginning to recognize that the technology itself is not inherently criminal. The issue lies not in the tools, but in how they are used.
