Vitalik Buterin about metaverses

Vitalik Buterin made a somewhat unexpected comment about the metaverses.

Currently, the metaverses are perceived as a realistic space in which we can travel, perceiving the world through our avatar. That’s kind of what we see in Hollywood blockbusters.

Serious work is indeed being done in this field. VR glasses can already be easily purchased, several very serious teams are working on full-fledged VR-metaverses. In principle we already can wander in three-dimensional virtual spaces, the issue is only the quality of the image. It is not possible yet to achieve a realistic one, but, perhaps, it is not necessary, our imagination will draw the realistic picture. So far on the market there is no metaverse with the WOW effect, obviously, the task was quite difficult.

Buterin suggested that such a heavy-duty metaverse, creating full realism, was redundant. We already use elements of the metaverse when working with AI, crypto and VR.

In his view, the notion of a metaverse was not sufficiently defined. And this is really so, the necessary and optimal functionality can be determined after collecting the user experience.

It’s quite a balanced position. Now we already have the opportunity to run elements of the metaverse, to gain experience. 

Meta Force professes this principle, the metaverse is created gradually, adding new blocks. Meta Force Metaverse has a practical orientation, visuals are important here, however, the functionality is in priority. Our Metaverse is not created for beauty, but for the convenience of users who solve specific business problems. 

In fact, there really isn’t enough conceptual apparatus to describe metaverses. It’s like the Internet at the moment of its appearance. Words like "tweet", "hacker", "like" would cause confusion. And then no one could imagine what the Internet would become in 30 years.

So today, we are creating the future meanings.
